YPC Senior Shoutout: Madyson Westerhouse

Writer's picture: Lucy DoldLucy Dold

As a senior and a dedicated leader within the Community Foundation of White County’s Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC), Madyson Westerhouse spent the past two years making an incredible impact on her school and community. Joining YPC at the beginning of her junior year, she has embraced every opportunity to give back, learn, and lead.

The Community Foundation of White County’s Youth Philanthropy Council is a youth-led organization focused on cultivating philanthropic engagement and leadership. As a distinguished opportunity for high school students, YPC members are entrusted with understanding the needs of their school communities and awarding grants to support impactful projects. Unlike a traditional school club, YPC functions as a voting committee under the guidance of the Community Foundation, empowering members to make real decisions that shape their communities.

Throughout her time with YPC, Mady has demonstrated outstanding leadership. Last year, she served as Project Manager for North White, acting as the key contact for grant applicants and facilitating communication between her school and the council. This year, she stepped into the role of Vice President, taking on responsibilities such as managing YPC’s social media presence, preparing meeting agendas, and leading meetings in the President’s absence.

Her work as Vice President has helped enhance YPC’s visibility in the community, with consistent posts on Facebook and Instagram to highlight the council’s efforts and engage the public.

When reflecting on her time in YPC, Mady shared her favorite part of the experience: “Getting to give back to my school and making new friends along the way.” She believes deeply in the power of philanthropy, saying, “It is important to engage in philanthropy as it is a way to have a huge impact on the people in our community while addressing many needs.”

She is particularly proud of her involvement in funding projects such as the Tri-County Backpack Project, which combats food insecurity, and the North White Guitar Project, which uses music to creatively engage students in the classroom.

In addition to her leadership roles, Mady is a passionate reader, art enthusiast, and active member of her school’s drama club and sports teams. Her greatest passion, however, is helping others—a trait that has shone brightly in her work with YPC.

Looking ahead, Mady hopes to see YPC continue to grow and positively impact White County schools. She reflects on her leadership journey with humility and wisdom, stating, “Being a leader is leading by example, creating positive change, and doing what is right even when no one else is.”

Mady, thank you for your dedication, creativity, and leadership within YPC. Your contributions have made a lasting difference in our community, and we can’t wait to see what amazing things you achieve in the future!
