For the past two years, Chase Pekny has been a dedicated member of the Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC), stepping into leadership as Vice President. YPC brings together students from across White County to learn about philanthropy, serve their communities, and award grants that make a difference in their schools. Through this experience, Chase has helped foster collaboration among his peers while gaining a deeper understanding of the grantmaking process.

“My favorite thing about YPC is being able to collaborate with my peers and learn about the grant giving process,” he shared.

Drawn to YPC after seeing its impact in his own school, Chase wanted to be part of something that creates real change. That perspective has grown into a deeper understanding of how thoughtful decisions, teamwork, and local investment can shape a school community. Whether reviewing applications, discussing needs with peers, or helping guide group conversations, Chase has played a role in ensuring student voices are part of meaningful change.

Outside of YPC, Chase stays active in Student Council (President), FCCLA (Treasurer), National Technical Honor Society (Treasurer), FFA, and multiple sports, serving as a team captain in wrestling, cross country, and golf. These experiences have strengthened his leadership skills and reinforced his belief that strong leaders lead by example and support others in reaching their goals.

His passion for the outdoors runs deep, shaped by 10 years in 4-H, where he has shown pigs and lambs and experienced the lasting impact youth programs can have. He also enjoys volunteering, including time spent supporting the Special Olympics Cornhole Tournament at Twin Lakes.

After graduation, Chase plans to attend Indiana State University or Manchester University to pursue his bachelor’s degree. No matter where he goes next, his commitment to community and leadership will continue to grow.

Now in its fourth cohort, the Youth Philanthropy Council is a functioning committee of the Community Foundation of White County, bringing together student leaders from across the county with real decision-making power. Together, YPC members identify needs within their schools, review grant applications, and award funding to support meaningful projects. To date, the council has awarded more than $57,000 in grants—supporting efforts like flexible classroom seating to enhance student focus, funding for school programs and student activities, and projects that improve safety, learning environments, and access to opportunities for students across White County.

Through this work, students like Chase are not only responding to needs they see today but also helping shape a stronger future for their schools and their community.
