Be the Change

Perhaps Mahatma Gandhi said it best: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

When you think about what makes our country a special place, the impact of charitable organizations cannot be overlooked. Habitat for Humanity. American Cancer Society. Heifer International. These and thousands of other organizations work tirelessly to improve our health and well-being.

While each nonprofit has its own unique mission statement and goals, a common thread unites them all.

These organizations exist to positively change and enhance the lives of people in the community, whether that community is defined as the entire world or White County, Indiana. While some organizations focus on the marginalized and underserved, others work toward bettering the lives of all community members.

Part of a community’s quality of life is measured by a strong network of nonprofits. These agencies are in place to help day in and day out, but they also can serve as a ready system of support for the community in time of crisis, when there is an economic downturn, or disaster strikes. White County is blessed with many dedicated nonprofits and volunteers who work very hard in this community. Literacy Volunteers. 4-H. The White County Food Pantry. White County Council on Aging. The list goes on and on.

Each and all of us are beneficiaries of the programs and services provided by charities and nonprofits in our community.

Each and all of us also have the opportunity to be benefactors.

Every county in Indiana has at least one community foundation to help you make your community the best it can be. Your Community Foundation of White County can help you identify local nonprofits that are in need of your help as well as many different ways you can support them.

The easiest and most common way to support a nonprofit is through a direct monetary donation. However, with some planning (and it’s not difficult!), your Community Foundation of White County can help you design a way to provide long-term support for organizations that are meaningful to you. Indeed, you can “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
